A cycling tour which passes through the wine producing regions of three countries with the start and end points of two quintessentially European cities (Basel and Strasbourg). In 256 km a wide range of natural and cultural landscapes and destinations are covered ranging from canals and architecture of modern city centers to the castles and abbeys that dot the picturesque countrysides. All along this tour you will have views of three different mountain chains, and pass through famous vineyards and charming medieval towns while having time to enjoy the cultural and culinary delights of this unique corner of of Europe. This is an easy to moderate difficulty tour follows much of the Baden and Alsace wine routes and Bruche canal cycle paths and otherwise utilizes many quiet and low traffic secondary roads.

An easy start to the tour on the cycling freindly Rhine cycle path. The objective of the day is Markgräflerland ("The Tuscany of Germany") an area known for its vineyards and especially for the unique white wine grape variety of Gutedel, also known as Chasselas.

After the visit to the Villa Urbana and the Maltese’s Castle in Heitersheim you will cycle to Bad Krozingen and visit the mineral thermal springs there before arriving to Freiburg in the Black Forest.

Begin the day viewing the the imposing 13th century Breisach Cathedral towers on the bank of the Rhine. You will cross the Rhine there to Neuf-Brisach in Alsace, a 17th century, octagonal fortified town. The day ends wonderfully in the Colmar, one of the most delightful towns on the Alsace wine route.

Time in the morning to explore the fascinating town of Colmar. Afterwards cycle on cycle paths and secondary roads to Riquewihr. Here at the foot of the Vosges Mountains you will pass through the wine making villages responsible for the reputation of the Alsatian Grand Crus: Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr.
