Turin was the first capital of Italy, and is now a very smart city, Originally, it was quite industrial, and is now predominantly cultural. With 4 rivers, there are many cycle paths to discover.
Today's ride is flat. From Turin you cycle along the Po river and affluents of Po, on cycle paths and small roads. At the foot of mountains; you reach the hunting palace of Stupinigi, royal residence of the family Savoia, and a masterpiece by the architect Filippo Juvarra in rococo style. Then, a very pleasant route takes us to beautiful Pinerolo, home to one of the most famous schools of cavalry in Italy.
Another flat day. We follow country roads crossing orchards and vineyards, until we reach Cavour with its curious "Rocca", a morainic hill just in the middle of the plain, and now a protected area. In a small castle, you may be able to taste the typical food of Piemont. Our final destination is Saluzzo.
Today's route is intermediate / easy, with some climbs after Fossano. On the way you can visit the pleasant castles of Manta and Costigliole, the ancient Roman town of Bene Vagienna and it's archeological remains. After Cherasco, we arrive in the gourmet capital of Bra, home to the "Slow Food" organization.
An intermediate / easy day in the Langhe area. In Pollenzo, the Roman Pollentia, the University of Gastronomic Sciences can be found. You then cycle to Alba along the River Tanaro. Cycling is perfectly flat but in the middle of the route we have some climbs to Barolo, where we can taste the wine in the castle. We spend the night in Alba, the town of the white truffle, and its medieval towers. Instead of the normal route it's possible to do the longer and more challenging Langhe tour.
An intermediate / easy route. Today we cycle through the Roero area. On the way we can see the castles of Guarene and Cisterna. Overnight in Asti, a town which is steeped in history, famous for the sparkling white wine spumante and the Palio, the famous running of horses.
An intermediate ride. We cycle through the charming hills of the Monferrato, with a strong gastronomic tradition. From Moncalvo there are pleasant views of the vineyard covered hills. In the afternoon we reach Casale Monferrato, a baroque town at the foot of the hills of Monferrato, on the River Po.
